CHALK TALK

A list of frequently questioned answers and other nonsense.

You have detailed answers, we have vague questions.

Hey wanker, where’s my confirmation email from my purchase?

Our web host is sometimes laggy in sending your confirmation so please be patient. I know that’s not a trait hashers usually have, but in the mean time, have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Have we met before?

There’s a very good chance we have. We used to be prolific travel hashers and have been the visitors singing a song at many a kennel. Also, since our kennel is in the center of the country, we’ve had lots and lots of visitors stop by on their way from one place to another.

What’s special about your haberdashery?

We offer a unique service to the hashers because every thing we sell is one-of-a-kind. Because we have to make a printout and/or cut a piece of vinyl for every item we make, we can put your Hash Name and Kennel Name on anything you buy. You pick the design you like, tell us your name and kennel and we send you an item that no other hasher has.

How long will it take from the time I order until I get my stuff?

To make life easier to take care of Snatch, we live in a very tiny house. Like, we have two drawers in our kitchen and one we have to open the stove before we can open the drawer. As such, we do not keep a lot of stock on hand because we have nowhere to keep it. So there is a good chance we may have to order stock from our suppliers to fulfill your order. However, both the place we get our blank tumblers, mugs, vinyl etc… and the place we buy shirts from are usually very, very quick about getting our orders to us, so we can then get your order to you.

Also, we are just starting this up, so as we grow, we’ll know more about what we should order more often and how much to get each time.

And, most importantly, please remember everything we make is handmade and personalized for you, all designed, printed/cut and pressed by Black Snake. So we will not be and cannot be the fastest supplier of hashy stuff. But when you’re standing in circle wearing a shirt made just for you, drinking your Down-Downs out of a vessel made just for you and whatever else we may offer in the future, remember it was made just for you, and that’s something we think is worth waiting a little bit longer for.

What is dye sublimation?

Dye sublimation is basically a very fancy inkjet printer, except it doesn’t use inkjet ink. Dye sublimation inks are a special ink that can be used in inkjet printers but must be used on special paper and look horrible until they are applied to whatever they are meant for. Basically, the ink is printed on the paper, then put on the shirt, vessel, etc… then put into a press that is heated to near 400° F, at which point the ink turns to steam and permanently bonds with the item. This makes a very vibrant and very permanent design.

However, dye sub inks only adhere to polyester materials and generally can’t be seen on anything that isn’t pure white, which means they can only be used on specially coated items and pure white polyester fabric.

All of our vessels are made to be dye subbed and many of our shirts are designed with being made with dye-sub as well.

What is heat transfer vinyl?

Heat transfer vinyl is basically the opposite of vinyl stickers like you put on your car, in that it doesn’t use adhesive to stick to things. It is partially cut out on a special cutter and then all the excess vinyl is removed. Then the vinyl is placed in a heat press and it literally melts into the fabric of whatever is being pressed. Unlike dye sublimation, it can be used on any almost any fabric, but unlike dye sub, htv can’t be used for full color, photographic designs.

Why can’t I pick a different shirt color?

Shirt colors are limited for two reasons. One, for dye-sublimation, the shirt has to be white and 100% polyester. It won’t stick to or be visible on anything else. Two, for the heat transfer vinyl shirts, we’re just getting started so we are picking the colors we feel the designs look best on for now, and, most importantly, we don’t have the room to keep a bunch of shirts in stock at the moment. As we build up stock and find a place to put it, we will make more color options available for our HTV shirts. Also, we’re both former RAs, and once an RA, always and RA, so what we say goes. Drink a proper Down-Down for you crimes.

Can I get a custom design?

You sure can. We offer design services to create items for individual wankers, entire kennels, special events, etc… See our page about custom and bulk sales for more details.

Do you only make hashy stuff?

Not at all. Although our hab is aimed at hashers, we are more than happy to make non-hash related items for you. In fact, we are setting up another shop that has nothing to do with hashing to sell things to “normal” people that this entire site would be utter gibberish. As with many things, keeping our hash and non-hash lives separate is a good thing. Just go to our custom orders section for more details on how to get a design or submit your own artwork.

Do you make patches?

We do not, but we know a great hasher that has a hab that only makes patches. Check out Dead Hare Haberdashery for all your patch needs. Both of us personally and our kennel have bought patches from her and they are extremely high quality and reasonably priced.

What happened to the Literal Hash Names?

If you don’t know what that is or forgot about it, Black Snake used to draw hasher’s names the way his mind literally saw them - he;s on the Autistic spectrum so he sees things a little different from most people. You can visit his site where he displays them at literalhashnames.com. After many years and doing almost 800 hash name drawings, he was sadly forced to stop after Snatch’s surgery. Taking care of her after her stroke took all his energy for many years. But now that we have finally gotten into a groove, he will be back to drawing Hashers names soon and will be offering products here exclusively for wankers past, present and future whose names he has drawn.
